Cranes are found in Asia, Europe, Africa, North America and most species are migratory. The Manchurian crane resides in Hakkaido reserve through the cold snowy winters in Japan. Both sexes of cranes display extraordinary dances most often prior to the mating season. Most cranes build their nests in shallow waters and both sexes help in the construction of the nest. They are making a comeback and hopefully by protection their numbers again will soon begin to rise. At present they are protected but endangered.
