The wood duck is considered one of the most majestic of all duck species because of its vibrant colors. This species of duck is renowned for the spectacular nuptial plumage of the males. These ducks prefer living on tracts of water bordered by tall stemmed plants in which they can lay their eggs in hollowed out trees close to the waters edge. They are found mainly among freshwater marshes and lakes, and broods of chicks are born in the spring consisting of one or two eggs. They are at current sustaining but habitat encroachment and pollution is having an effect on these majestic ducks.
